I would imagine if you emailed [email protected] they would
mail you the correct one for free, and you can install that
next time you have the rig opened up.

That's an interesting point - I wonder if I should do the
same thing, now that the rig has "settled" for several months.

I agree with you there. With my K2, I solved the annoyance by
taking a strip of black electrical tape and laying it
over the top edge of the LCD. When mounted back in the front
panel, it hides the LCD line just fine and doesn't show as
odd. This is a minor point but this is the third time I've
seen this concern go by... I doubt Elecraft are in any hurry
to change sheetmetal design (and may have thousands of
front panels already in stock) but if they ever did up-rev
the sheetmetal, this is something I'd change "just because."
