I always did prefer the sound my old wwII headset with its restricted bandpass, but they are not very comfortable to wear. So, I did a search on the web for a suitable passive audio filter I could use between the K2 and my Heil headset. The W3NQN unit seemed to be just the ticket, so I ordered one. The kit took me about 3 hrs to put togather. Some parts needed to be glued in place, so it was a two day job. The results are spectacular. It kills all high frequency hiss. Signals seem to stand out in a very nice way. With DSP noise reduction on two very nice things happen: 1. The kazoo effect (spurious artifacts) is eliminated. 2. The signal to noise ratio, on most signals, improves dramatically. I wired in a rotary selector switch so as to vary the degree of filtering to suit my taste. Perhaps Elecraft should consider offering a passive filter as an external add-on. 73s/Joe/KF6HAP
