Amen!
I just talked to some folks on a repeater to check in on the local ARES net as I was
checking in to a CW traffic net. They thought I sounded a bit strange (I was keying
and talking at the same time so I was a bit distracted) but after the traffic net and the
ARES net completed I had a nice chat with three folks about them (and me) working
CW. One of them has a goal of 20 wpm while driving his 18 wheeler. He knows some
of his buddies are doing it and he wants to join in. The another guy wants to get on
the air soon but hasn't figured out how to change his 756 back to a transmitter. He
has it set as a CPO right now for practice and he's blind so needs some assistance to
get it back to its normal settings. But the long and the short of it is these guys know
about the pleasure of CW and want to join in. I am hoping there were other folks
listening in who just might get the urge to upgrade or to use that portion of the band
again. I think CW is great fun and more folks should get on the air and enjoy
themselves.
