[Elecraft] Long Felt Want

Here's a quick mod that I found improved my K2 receive audio.

The other weekend during JOTA I let a fellow club member operate=
 my
K2 on CW. As I use SSB exclusively I was keen to see how it
performed. It worked extremely well and he was very impressed,
however there was one area that I "felt" needed attention.

With SSB I hardly advance the audio gain beyond 9 o'clock to get=
 a
comfortable listening volume, but my friend was turning the gain=

right up to copy weak CW stations. This was fine until a strong
signal came on and the whole top of my K2 started to vibrate !.

I had noticed that the audio seemed better with the KPA100=
 speaker
when it was part of the K2 before I remoted it with the KAT100=
 ATU.
This is because of a greater mass surrounding the speaker keeps=
 the
vibration down.

To cut to the chase I used a piece of felt from a transport=
 blanket
left over when we moved house. I cut this to fit around the=
 speaker
and the KAT2 (I don't have the battery pack). This was then=
 glued
with a general purpose adhesive to the bare metal inside the top=

cover.

End result I can now advance the audio gain way up, nothing=
 rattles
and the sound quality is a lot rounder.

I would be interested in your comments if you try it.
