Folks:
In case you're really wanting a nice Christmas present, or you just flat
NEED (read "want") a new temp-controlled soldering station, here's a
possible hint...
www.kiesub.com is currently offering two models of the Hakko 936 T/C
soldering station at pretty decent prices:
Hakko 936-12 ESD-protected w/Med-sized Iron $84.95
Hakko 936-9 Non-ESD-prot. w/Med-sized Iron $69.95
The ONLY difference between these two stations is that one is specifically
ESD protected. BOTH stations have their irons GROUNDED. I personally have
the 936-9 and have NEVER lost a device due to ESD problems. Of course, that
doesn't mean that I won't tomorrow, but I did want to mention it.
Both the Hakko 936-9 and the 936-12 come with the 907 iron attached, and
include the 1.6mm chisel tip.
Kiesub is offering FREE shipping AND, if you check the available box,
they'll throw in a FREE Hakko Soldering Iron Tip Cleaner (a much nicer
looking version of what I made from a stainless steel kitchen 'scrubbie').
This device usually sells for $9.95.
I'd suggest you consider investing in several additional tips as well, to
match whatever width PC board pad you are working on. I try to use a tip
that's about 80%-90% the width of the pad... helps to prevent solder shorts
between adjacent pads.
If you have the HAKKO 936-12 (ESD) or the -09 (non-ESD), the tips you're
looking for are the 900M & 900L series. The "L" series is generally a
longer tip.
900M-T-LB Long, round, .008" tip, really skinny,
helpful when cleaning out PCB holes
900M-T-1.2D .047" Chisel tip --
|
900M-T-1.6D .063" Chisel tip |-- For PCB work. The HAKKO
| 936-12 and -9 models ship
| with the 900M-T-1.6D tip
| included.
900M-T-2.4D .095" Chisel tip --
900M-T-3.2D .126" Chisel tip - For non-PCB work
900M-T-S3 .205" Chisel tip - For heavy-duty work,
incl. Coax Conns.
900L-T-S1 .221" Chisel tip - For heavy-duty work,
esp. coax conns.
All of these tips are (I believe) available from Kiesub and also include
FREE shipping.
They also are offering the Hakko 808 DE-soldering gun for $159.95. Shipping
appears to not be free here, but if bought with the 936, it might be.
As always, standard disclaimers regarding Kiesub and Hakko apply.
Cheers,
