[Elecraft] Another newbie question

What you are referring to is the old true 'zero-beating' of a signal. With
a transceiver having narrow enough filters so you only hear one side of zero
frequency, one only must match the received audio pitch to a particular tone
and 'presto' you have achieved zero beat. With the K2, that particular tone
is the one you have selected as your sidetone pitch (provided you have set
the BFOs and your filters up properly).

| Hi all
|
| After the magnificent response to my QSK question I offer you all
| another opportunity to shower me with knowledge :-)
|
| Bear in mind that my long-ago operating experience was with separate
| rx's, tx's, antennae and split frequency operation. When I worked a
| coast station I tuned my rx into the station's tx frequency, slapped a
| narrow filter on and tweaked my BFO so I got a decent tone so all this
| talk of USB/LSB listening on CW befuddles me slightly. Can someone
| explain the practicalities please?
