[Elecraft] Operation of silver lollipop

The "Silver Lollipop" D104 mic is an icon of the past. Depending upon =
how
old it really is (it was only recently discontinued although it was
manufactured for over 50 years) you might not be giving it the best =
chance
just hooking it to a K2. The original D104 was a crystal microphone with =
a
very high impedance. The K2, like most newer rigs, is designed for a =
dynamic
element. Later D104's used impedance transformers and I believe some =
even
had preamps to match the newer rigs. But if you have a true "old" D104, =
the
impedance mismatch can cause a very tilted frequency response. If so, =
it's
easy to cure, but it's worth looking into if you intend to use the =
venerable
"lollipop" microphone on phone.

Hi

I inherited this silver lollipop recently with the numbers "D-104 /=20
T-UG9" on it. It was new-in-box and it seemed a shame to let it languish =

in the cellar. So yesterday I wired it up to an 8-pin mic connector and=20
had my xyl judge the audio out of the K-2 in test mode (SSBA BAL) while=20
I fooled with the OP1 bfo setting.
...
but now that I see that ssb qrp is viable, I guess I'll give=20
it a try again some time.
