[Elecraft] N-Gen board error and mini kits

Hi

I built all of the mini kits from Elecraft. These would make great first =
time kits to build for a warm up to a K2, K1 or KX1. A dummy load is =
required to do the alignment on all of these and the little DL1 is good =
for all, although not large enough for the KPA100 (its rated for 20 =
watts). It has a DC output proportional to the power input and a =
conversion chart so power out can be measured with a DVM. For the K2/100 =
I would still recommend the OHR 100 watt dummy load and the OHR WM-2 =
wattmeter. The OHR dummy load can be easily converted to an attenuator =
for the WM-2 so the WM-2 will read 0-100 watts on the 0-1 watt scale=20

The noise generator kit N-Gen is handy for aligning the filters on the =
k2. Although not required to complete the K2. The N-Gen generator and =
Spectrogram makes the job much easier. Looking at the output on a =
spectrum analyzer the little N-Gen is flat out to 500 MHz and only falls =
off a little out to 1200 MHz the limit of my analyzer.=20

The 4:1 Balun kit BL1 is a handy device for use with loop antennas or to =
improve the match in some cases or when balanced feed line is used. It =
is small and easy to carry so it is there when you need it. The BL1 uses =
a little different design than most baluns in that a binocular ferrite =
core is used for the two windings. It can also be configured for 1:1 if =
you prefer.

All of the kits are easy to build and should not take over an hour each =
to build. They all worked well except the N-Gen kit I got had a bad =
zener diode. It would not make any noise. I did not have a 1n5235A in =
stock so I used the emitter-base of a 2n3904 transistor. These make good =
~5 volt zeners and generate good noise.=20

You are correct. The silk screen is wrong on the N-Gen. The LED is =
listed as D2 and it should be D3

There appears to be a labeling mistake on the N-Gen
board for D3 - the board says D2.
