Hello all,
I couldn't let this formative experience pass un marked!
My K1 #1672 (2 band: 40 & 20) was completed in August and I've been
having great fun with it. I had been QRT for over 5 years before
getting the bug to build a CW rig and get back to HF and the K1 has
been a great rig for that! Until today (discounting a dodgy "contest
599xxx" from a W station) I've been mostly working Europeans on both
bands.
Tonight (after I'd put a pizza in the oven and thus limited my
operating time!) I tuned around 20m as the W stations started to
appear ~17:00 UTC. After hearing N4AF call CQ I thought I'd chance a
reply.
I nearly fell out of my seat when I heard my call returned!
We had a real QSO (being told "ur K1 doing FB" is a great feeing!) and
both had to QRT to eat (Howie had lunch and I had my pizza)!
Needless to say the XYL didn't quite share my enthusiasm for working
the States on QRP with a home built rig...but then you can't win 'em
all!
Next stop the VKs in the morning openings on 20m
Cheers,
