Hi John
The =A370 fee for import duty in my opinion is incorrect. Its too high!
The amount to be payed consists of 3 components.
1. Import Duty. I believe this varies as to the type of good imported =
but currently is around 3% of the purchase price. THIS IS THE SUM WHICH =
IS EXEMPTED IN THE UK BY ELECRAFT DECLARING ON THE GREEN CUSTOMS =
DECLARATION A SPECIFIC CODE. see previous mailings to the list.
2. VAT. As the goods imported have not had any VAT payed in the country =
of origin. If you had imported from an European Country this would have =
been payed in the purchase price. Importing from the USA will attract a =
17.5% mark up.
3.Handling Charges. The conveyor of the package will charge you a sum of =
around =A310 as he has payed the duty and VAT for you.=20
Therefore you will get caught for the VAT and HandlingCharge.
I know of some who have never paid any charges on equipment imported =
despite the package being labelled as Fee Payable!
Good luck with your claim and please let me know how the transverter =
progresses
Santa may bring me one.
