There is an understandable concern by those whose backorders have not been
filled while those attending hamventions walk away with the desired prizes.
The feeling is only human. However, putting on my economist's hat for a
moment, allow me to ask you to take a longer view. The only reason you are
able to order these marvelous products at all is because Elecraft develops
and markets them. This is something they cannot continue to do unless
their business continues to thrive and grow. Hamventions are a major arena
in which to introduce and promote new products. They are an important part
in the engine of growth for a company like Elecraft. You will notice
exactly the same sort of "inequity" by all the computer and software
companies, who forgo backorders to some degree to aid in their product
sales at the major Computer Conventions across the country. It's an
important part of doing business -- it's an important part of staying in
business -- it's an important reason why you are able to order your
Elecraft products at all and avoid the ultimate backorder that would occur
if Elecraft went out of business. Just be thankful that the same guys who
have clearly demonstrated their abilities to design some of the greatest
amateur radio gear of all time are also showing themselves as capable
businessmen, we hope for a very, very long time.
best wishes,
