Chris
This is a reasonable insertion loss, if the coils are not very high Q,
say 50 or so. Also, in your design, what 3db passband did you specify?
You may be at the point where it is as good as it can get with the
inductors you have. They have a big influence on the insertion loss.

Subject: [Elecraft] bandpass filter losses

Has anyone had experience with measuring the insertion loss of bandpass
filters. I am working with a 10Mhz filter with the topology: input
transformer, caps to ground, 2.7 pF coupling cap, caps and inductor to
ground, 2.7 pF coupling cap, caps to ground, output transformer. The
insertion loss measures around 4.6 dB and I am curious if this sounds too
high compared to other designs. Thanks.
