For LINEAR power supplies, in my experience, I have regularly found dead
Pyramid supplies at hamfests.
These are a good source for parts in building a new power supply (see Metz
article below).
If you are building an Elecraft kit (K1, K2, etc.), why now build a power
supply?
I have a preference for Astron over Pyramid - because Astron is established
in the commercial
business radio market, solid design, supported by mfg. and extensive
technical information on Internet.
Astrons regularly appear in the surplus market (eBay, hamfests) for
substantially less than new.
Components are similar in these commercial supplies, BUT the difference is
in the quality of parts
procurement, assembly and original design. Examine these LINEAR power
