[Elecraft] Slow to load site

I just went to the web site, and it loaded in a blink. That's
imprecise terminology for definitely less than a second. I have ADSL
and stuff downloads wide open around 150 kbps for me. But I'm sure
that's not the reason.

I suspect that if I got into the HTML and chased all the internal
references, that a lot of the stuff in the page has been saved in my
browser's internet CACHE (IE's "Temporary Internet Files").

Anyone who is using dial-up and doing a lot of internet browsing needs
to keep a VERY LARGE cache.

In Internet Explorer, use TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, TEMPORARY INTERNET
FILES, SETTINGS.

On "check for newer versions of stored pages:" check "Every visit to
page"

If you have a 40 gigabyte hard drive, give it 2 gb.

That way you will only load all the graphics pieces of the page the
FIRST time you visit. Those all have old dates, since Wayne, et al are
NOT up all night every night changing out graphics files. Web page
managers learn to put page parts that don't change into separate files
to simplify upgrades and keep the HTML change count down.

You have a choice when you are setting the disk space for temporary
internet files: Save space (on a 40 gb drive?) and download forever
(while you are waiting) or throw space at it and only download the
changes.

I have ADSL, and even with that, after one of my periodic cache
flushes, I notice the slowdown for a while.

My daughter has to use dialup out at her place. When I bumped up her
IE cache settings, she said the difference was magic.

73, Guy.
