[Elecraft] Slow to load site

Hi Gang,

Meant to reply to this earlier, but got busy. Rich, I have EXACTLY the same
problem. Elecraft.com loads fine at home, but REAL slow on the T3 we have in
the office and yes sometimes it times out. I also think that this is a
routing issue. Elecraft isn't the only site though, I have problems with a
few at work. Funny thing is that my dial-up at home is much faster on those
sites ;-) Doesn't bother me too much though, as I rarely have time at work
to browse the web ;-)

Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Slow to load site

At home with COX Cable I can load Elecraft pages in seconds (2 - 7). However
at work, which has a T1 connection, some times it will take over a minute
and even time out on the main or subsequent pages. I have used finger and
whois, etc. and the same is true for other sites on the server Elecraft
uses, when at work. I have used traceroute and from work the first big hop
goes through St Louis, however from home the first big hop is to San
Francisco. And, no the server at work is not bogged down as when I try
Elecraft and it don't load it will load CNN, USA, etc, in seconds. This
makes me think that it is at the Elecraft server or the route that gets
used.

This happens so often I have even saved a shortcut to the Elecraft Archives
(since it is on a different server than Elecraft) to read the archive at
work. Otherwise I couldn't get to it. Have thought of complaining to Eric,
but he has better things to do.

Oh yes, don't believe the stuff that it is faster to down load from a site
closest to you. I have used traceroute and even though I and my office are
in Omaha, NE, all data goes through Kansas City and St Louis between my home
and work. I actually get faster downloads of large files from California
than from a site in Nebraska or Kansas.
