[Elecraft] Elecraft] Zeroing in on WWV

In addition to the info provided below, look in last month's reflector
archive for: "N6KR's 4 MHz oscillator cal method for the K2"

Wayne describes a method that I used and it worked great! In addition
to these instructions, I used the method described below by David and
used CW mode and SPOT to zero beat WWV. Then I used Wayne's method of
moving the test probe between TP1 and TP2 to match the last 3 digits of
the VCO(TP1) reading and BFO(TP2) reading for adjusting C22. Then run
CAL PLL with the K2 switched to 40 Meters and you'll have it. Only one
other thing and I believe that it is mentioned in the manual - turn on
the K2 for 30 minutes or so before doing the calibration to allow for
temp stabilization.

I know where your coming from. Found the same thing myself - however, I
neglected to read the manual properly. Simply turning C22 will not
adjust your rx frequency. The trick is to make minor adjustments (as
per the manual) then redo the CAL-PLL. Recheck your frequence
adjustment against the WWV zero beat and then readjust C22 as suggested
and redo CAL-PLL.. Then recheck how far you are off from zero beat....
and so on. Also the zero beat is sometimes hard to pick - you can use
the Spectrogram to help, but I did mine in CW mode and used SPOT to zero
beat against WWV.

When I initially build my rig and before I touched C22 my rig was about
500hz off. Now I am within 10- 15 hz off. This is accurate enough for
me.

Best of luck.

Hi,

I noticed that K2 #462 and WWV don't exactly agree on where 10.000 MHz
is. I tried turning C22 on the control board while listening to WWV and
it
doesn't seem to make any difference. What am I doing wrong?
