I think it has been discussed before, but the sensitivity of earbuds 
varies. I read the labels at Best Buy the other day. The foam-earplug types 
were the best (Koss - The Plug). They go deep into the ear and really 
couple well.

I went with second best (and easier to use) Sony mdr-e828lp earbuds at 108 
db/mw. This was nearly 10 db better than the regular Koss earbuds I already 
had.

This produced a noticeable reduction in volume control required, cost only 
$9.95 plus tax and didn't require mods to the rig or increase the current 
draw (in fact it probably decreased it a bit).
