Dave -
I'm building my first K2 and am just a few steps ahead
of you, so here goes...
The two LEDs are embedded in the diffuser panel, one
per short side. They're rectangular w/ a square cross
section and each has two leads coming out of it.
Follow the wires and they're easy to find. The
diffuser is the thing with only four wires coming out
of it. The LCD has multiple IC-type leads coming out
of its top edge, plus six on the lower edge.
The spacers in your picture (square, black, rubbery
things) are NOT the ones you want for the LCD. They
go between the front board and two chassis blocks (2D
fasteners) in a later step. The ones you DO want are
the fork-tine pieces from the RF probe board/switch
spacing tool. See Figure 5-1 in the manual; the
spacers are the four segments on the right side of the
part in the drawing. Each spacer has two holes in it
for the LED leads to pass through, which is how they
are held in place - no adhesive needed.
The *ONLY* thing you should peel off the diffuser or
the LCD is the thin plastic backing with faint stripes
across it which MAY be on the back of the LCD. Mine
didn't have it, and yours may not either. The film on
the front of the LCD will come off later.
The completed assembly will go, from the top down:
LCD
Diffuser (with the semi-opaque white plastic thingie
on top)
One spacer per side
One more spacer per side
Front board
Hope that helps!
