i am about to start soldering, but i have a question..

all my life, i have used generic $5 soldering irons. this is the first real 
soldering station i have had..

can anyone tell me how the temperature is set on this iron?

i am guessing it is the tip that gauges the temperature..

i pulled the tip out of mine, and it has a "7" marked on the bottom..

does this mean 700F?
