[Elecraft] Unresolved Firmware Upgrade Problem

Mark,

Did you (by chance) turn any knobs while CAL PLL was running?
I discovered last night, that 'twiddling' with a knob while waiting
impatiently for CAL PLL to complete will stop the process and give you an
INFO 232 - I didn't know that before!!!.

Other than that, the info 232 tells you that either the K2 is not set to 40
meters OR that the microprocessor does not think the probe is connected
properly to TP1 - try the probe in both TP1 and TP3 while selecting CAL FCTR
from the menu - you should find good readings at both, and while doing that,
wiggle the probe a bit near each end to see if there is an intermittent open
circuit. I assume you do have the control board end plugged the right way
'round - the shield goes closest to the side panel.

I do think that your problem with no VFO action on 40 meters is your first
problem to resolve. Check to see if the microprocessor(s) were properly
inserted into the sockets - no legs bent over or sticking outside the
socket. Other than an improperly socketed uP, I can't think of anything
other than a bad microprocessor could cause such problems.

You can try plugging in the version 2.02f which you know worked before you
removed it - I would recommend that before trying a massive reset. Also
check everything that you might have bumped or misplugged during the process
of changing the microprocessor - for instance, if you removed the control
board, check to see that it is properly plugged and seated - with some plugs
and headers, it is easy to offset them by one pin when re-plugging.

----- Original Message -----

I upgraded my Firmware from K2MCU 2.02f ... to K2MCU 2.03d and the I/O
Controller from 1.02 to K2IOC 1.07. The K2 is equipped with the KPA100,
and all was functioning very well before the Firmware upgrade(s) - all bands
and all modes.

Now, I'm having problems with alignment and set-up. Both chips are inserted
correctly and the radio is functioning and responding "more or less" OK.
All menu functions appear to be active. The problems appear to be related
to the BFO settings and the Filter settings on 40M. Some symptoms are:
muted receive audio on some bands especially 40M; no effect of turning the
main VFO dial on 40M; OP1 settings "sound" different than before upgrade,
especially 40M. I'm getting an INFO 232 message when performing CAL PLL
(counter probe is in TP1 radio set to 40M). I reset the BFO and filter
settings as they were before.

Do I need to reset the K2 and start over?? Any help greatly appreciated, as
I'm wanting to resolve this before proceeding to build the KPA100, and split
the radio into a second EC2.

73, and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Mark, K7MAS
