[Elecraft] Birdie

Ian,

I would believe you are hearing the normal 7000 kHz birdie at that frequency
since it is so close. The one of current interest tunes VERY sharp, and
about 7014 kHz, and mine does not have a good CW note - it is rather
'raspy'. Also it seems that the folks that have reported this birdie do
have the KIO2 (or its equivalent in the KPA100) installed.

If indeed you are tuning the 7000 birdie at 7002 kHz, you may want to
calibrate your K2 dial frequency.
My website (www.qsl.net/w3fpr) has an article with several methods of
accomplishing the dial calibration and some background information, but the
easiest seems to be the method of comparing the VFO and BFO frequencies with
the K2 tuned to 10 mHz WWV - this has been labeled the 'N6KR method' because
it was created by none other than Wayne Burdick himself. If you cannot find
it in the archives, I can send it to you.

73,
Don W3FPR
