I did that on SEVERAL of those holes when I built Field Test s/n 00007.
What I did was to REMOVE all screws and replace them with slightly longer
ones WITH NUTS, and inserted the screws from the BOTTOM of the case,
allowing the holes in the battery holder to 'secure' the nuts. Worked well
EXCEPT that I had a bit of screw thread sticking out of the nuts, and it
pierced the insulation of one (or more) batteries, rendering them out of
order until I found the problem.
To fix THAT problem, I first cut each screw short enough that none of it
protruded thru the nut, so it couldn't stick up, and I also put a piece of
cardboard (actually a product called 'fish paper', available at motor
rewinding shops, actually a great product to have on hand in ANY builder's
shack) down in the bottom of the battery holder, covering each nut. The
fish paper is VERY (extremely) tough and there's no chance at all that
anything's gonna punch through it into the battery insulation.
