Greetings all!
While sorting through my junk box the other day, I found some BNC connectors
designed for RG 174 and realized that I had just found the perfect portable
antenna connector. I have been using the 26 ga. polyethylene coated wire
from Davis RF. It holds up much better in the marine enviroment that I work
in and is very tree friendly due to its smooth finish. It is also very easy
to work with and kink free. The wire is soldered to the center pin of the
BNC with a short piece of heat shrink as a strain relief. For the
counterpoise, I have a 16' and 24' piece of the same wire soldered to the
ground connection of 2.1mm coaxial power plugs, also with strain relief. It
seems to work better having a wire out of each end of the rig.
I have been using a BNC to double binding post connector ($3.85 from
elexp.com), but find the above to be a cleaner approach that doesn't require
re-stripping wires on a regular basis.
