Good Evening,
Another hectic week at Buxton Lookout Ranch. I tried converting my G5RV into a
vertical per AC7AC's suggestion but was unable to maintain the configuration for long
enough to evaluate the propagation. I heard one digital station and one very weak
CW station in the middle of the day. But since it is my primary E-W antenna I need it
for my traffic nets. If someone has a model for a G5RV antenna for NEC Win Plus I
would appreciate a copy so I can try out the modification and see what the
propagation pattern offers me. Ron's suggestion was to short the inner and outer
parts of the coax together and thence to the inner part of the socket. Then make sure
I have a good ground. KL7V/5's idea was to lower the antenna the jumper the middle
insulator and leave the coax as it is. Ron's idea would give me a vertical and Sam's
would give me a horizontal antenna. Ron's idea works in the shack and Sam's is
outside. We have had 9 inches of snow so far this week and the fir trees are full of
snow. It is not pleasant to work on antennas when the trees keep dumping snow down
my back. So 30 meters is out for tomorrow. I'll stick with what I did last week and run
it early on 20 meters. That way we have daylight propagation on 20 meters. I know
some of you will not be able to attend but I will try to get back to the regular time next
week on 30 meters.

Sunday at 3 PM PST (2300 z)

I hope to hear you on the air tomorrow at or above 14050 kHz.

Sunday 3 PM PST (2300z).
