[Elecraft] Why we recommend 8 volts minimum for the KX1

Hi Gil,

You may occasionally operate your KX1 with a mismatched load or a poor ground.
This can result in higher transmit current and/or reduced noise immunity due to
high RF voltages on the chassis. Running from batteries that have a nominal
voltage above 8 volts will provide a safety margin at such times.

We've actually tested the KX1 down to 6.5 volts operating into 50 ohms, but a
perfecly-matched load is rare during field operation.

A set of six 1.5-volt lithium camera batteries will last a *very* long time in
the KX1, and they have a flat discharge curve. I strongly recommend them, even
though they're about twice as expensive as alkalines.
