[Elecraft] K2 and Hum...

For what it's worth, I experienced a strong hum on my K2/100 last
evening on the 80-meter band that was NOT the result of magnetic fields.
The cause appeared to be the result of an unregulated 12 volt DC power
cable (parallel conductor) running near the rear of the transceiver.

Opening one of the 12 volt power leads caused the hum to be reduced,
but did not diminish completely until both power leads were disconnected.

This leads me to believe the problem was due more to an electrostatic
field rather than electromagnetic. It's the sort of thing I might
expect in an environment of high-Z audio amplifiers, perhaps with
a bad ground connection somewhere.

I found the hum to be most pronounced on strong signals. I didn't
observe a hum on any bands other than 80-meters.

VERRY strange...

Kinda messed me up in last night's ARRL Frequency Measuring Test. :-(

Did anyone else use a K2 during last night's FMT? Just curious...
