Peader EI2IF , Brian EI6JG, Sean EI7CV, Gerry EI9DZ, John EI7GN and Myself
manned an Elecraft stand at the Mayo Radio Experimenter's Network (MREN)
Rally (hamfest) In Knock Co Mayo Ireland on Sunday last, here is a short
account of Elecraft's first public appearance at an Irish rally.
The rally was a Success with lots of interest in the Stand, there were at
least 3 of us in attendance at all times and we were busy. On display we
had several K1 and K2s including a K2 partially disassembled and an open
K1. I also had My KX1 on show and My K2 was at the side of the stand
connected to an antenna (random wire with a few radials) for people to play
with, this was a popular attraction
Attendance at the rally was very good by Irish standards with most of the
active Irish amateurs there for the day along with a sizeable contingent
from Northern Ireland. Quite a few visitors to the stand had heard of the
Elecraft range but felt that building something as complex as a K2 would be
'too difficult' Hopefully now that they have had a chance to look inside
the radio, see the manual and talk to the owners some of them will try
their hand at building an Elecraft kit.
If we had been able to sell kits there on the day I have no doubt that we
would have sold quite a few on the spot. Hopefully elecraft will see some
new orders from Ireland in the coming weeks.
We have been invited by the organizers of the Enniskillen Rally
(Enniskillen is in Northern Ireland) to attend their rally in April 2004,
something I would like to do if a few of the others are up for helping out.
