Get the manual and align it from start to finish. It will serve the
double purpose of acquainting you with the radio and this knowledge
will be useful in the future.
The ripple can easily be from the power supply you are using to
provide the 12 volts. Wall cube type power supplies often have large
amounts of 120 Hz ripple. Also power supplies can have output
capacitors too small or going/gone bad.
