[Elecraft] BFO on KX1

Hello,

My KX1 #141 is now working for a full week and I am very pleased with it. I
was able to work on the 3 bands about 50 stations from 4 continents (I need
oceania, but it is a long way from here, at least with a 2x20 m doublet,
hi!).

Yesterday, I have noticed something which can be of interest for some of us.

I performed the BFO calibration (see page 69 of the manual) with WWV on 10
MHZ. I was able to reach a good balance between LSB and USB with a BFO
parameter of 57.

Some minutes later, I was back on 40m and tried to work a very loud UR5
station; no success; same thing for other loud stations that I can usely
work easely with 4 watts;

When I tried to check my TX frequency, I saw a difference on the frequency
display between the KX1 reading and the one displayed on the K2 (calibrated
at less than 100 Hz); in fact my TX frequency was offset of 700 hertz
compared to the RX frequency; this explains my trouble to work any station
after the BFO calibration. When I set the BFO setting back to "0", all came
back in order and I worked UN7TC and EX9A.!!

Conclusions
I suspect that this behaviour is *not abnormal* ... if I understand well
the effect of the BFO parameter when listening broadcast station on LSB or
USB mode.
But if this calibration (a BFO offset) is also used in the CW mode, it will
cause the trouble I have discribed above.
Is it possible to force the BFO parameter to "0" when using CW in the next
version of the MCU program ?

I hope it will help; anyway the exact calibration of the frequency display
for broadcast stations is not so important for me !!
