HRD is a complete control program but if I recall the last time I used it,
there was no logging provisions. The digital interface was PSK only with no
capability for RTTY, SSTV or other digi modes. These features incorporated
to HRD would make it ideal.
I'm not knocking HRD as for what it is, it's great. Just could be better
with those features.
I still have yet to find the perfect program. I am hoping one day for a
general logging program with flexible award tracking, rig and rotor control,
useful but easy to use telnet dx cluster capable of SO2R operating, GOOD
built-in contesting features so other stand-alone programs would not be
necessary, and a good interface with a digital program capable of all the
digi modes and also the MMTTY engine.
A good program I have found on it's way to this goal is the MiLog program at
Hamtoys.com (no association). It's still lacking in some of these features,
but it is growing. And Larry, the developer, is quick with responses to
suggestions and/or fixes. Right now the digi interface is not that great,
though it uses the MMTTY engine. Still lacks other digi mode capability.
It does nicely auto log the info from the rtty window when clicking on the
call. There is no real rig control but does read and set freq and mode for
logging and from spotting. The other thing lacking is the number of contests
listed is very limited. Hopefully this will change as the program is
developed. As it is, it does a lot of great things. Updates come out
often.

John,
I just downloaded Ham Radio Deluxe [HRD] the latest version along with
their companion PSK31 that is now available. I also have downloaded and
tried just about every other program out there, including the Elecraft
one ... at this point I cannot find any other K2 specific program that
can hold a candle to the HRD.
HRD is light-years ahead of even the "official" Elecraft program. The
PKS31 add on is so complete and user friendly that I cannot imagine even
wanting to try some thing else. I am a senior in an Electronics
Engineering program at college (at 55 years young) and am taking
microprocessor programming classes now and have NEVER found computer
programs "friendly" ... but this HRD is my pet ... I'd stick with that
one and learn it well (which will not take long...) and use it. Here is
the users group link:

I hope this has helped .... I am particularly interested in PSK31
transmissions... but don't know if I can use the K2 with out having the
DSP option installed??
