Agreed!  

I think applying DSP, neural networks, and a few other AI tricks to copying on the air 
CW interspersed with QRM, QRN, and QSB would be an interesting problem to solve.  
It might take a little time but I think in the end I would have learned a great deal.  Then 
I would probably let the idea lie.  Isn't that the point?  Lock a group of engineers in 
their cubes with an interesting problem and throw them raw meat and Diet Coke.  In a 
few weeks (or most probably less) an elegant answer and a group of stinky engineers 
will emerge :)
