No need for a novel, there are several good non-fiction books (e.g.,
The Codebreakers, by David Kahn--I read it 30 years ago and just
discovered that the first paragraph mentions the island where I now
live, so I ordered a copy from Amazon).

Hollow out a book and package the KX1 inside it.  Might have some
problems with airport security, however.
