[Elecraft] FYI: IC Sockets Tin or Gold plated contacts

I'm no expert, but....

At one time I worked as a Hardware Engineer for a very large Main Frame
computer company that used gold plated contacts extensively on their PC
boards. The main problem was sulfide build up on the contact causing bit
dropping. This occurred, inside a "clean room" computer facility, with
monotonous regularity.

The solution was regular scheduled cleaning of the gold contacts with
(believe it or not) Radio Shack TV turret cleaner.
Nowadays the standard action is to "reseat the board" !!!

I doubt we run our K2's inside "clean rooms"  :-\
