Never mind, It was my new MFJ-1317 power supply. Should have known (to
quote myself; "sounds just like if I turned on a very poorly shielded piece
of HV electronic equipment right next to the rig") Today I went to 7 Eleven
(one on every corner here) and bought eight AAs and using some bits of wire
and half a roll of electrical tape I constructed a 12v source and the noise
was gone. Yesterday As a troubleshooting step I actually put the PS in the
mini-bar fridge and shut the door! but I guess since nothing is grounded
(only two prong outlets here) and being that it WAS still connected to the
radio, it had no effect!

Thanks,
-Larry

Subject: My K1 is sick, please help!

I'm in Japan and I brought my K1 along but it's developed a weird
problem. It happens on Rx and I think its in the AF stage but I could be
totally wrong. When tuning around any band and come across some QRN the
audio will blast a harsh static that sounds just like if I turned on a
very poorly shielded piece of HV electronic equipment right next to the
rig. Then if I turn the volume all the way down and then slowly back up
it will be gone until I get to about one o'clock or so and then it
instantly blasts out again and the volume has to be turned all the way
down to make it go away. It only happens with an antenna connected and
CW signals don't seem to trigger it, only broadband hash stuff.

Thanks a lot,
