Nothing sad about it! I'd be disappointed if the $3300+ Orion were not 
"better" in most areas. Particularly considering that a bare bones Orion costs more 
than double the price of a K2 with every possible option.

It's a win-win situation because it demonstrates just how much technology is 
required to beat the K2 receiver. Scary, really.

And there are some areas where the K2 still wins. For example, which rig 
would you choose for backpacking? Which rig will operate longer on, say, a 7 AH 
SLA battery?

Betcha we hear from a lot of hams who get both rigs.
