I have for sale an Iwatsu optical encoder, Digi-Key Part #102-1009-ND.
This is a compatible replacement part for the Iwatsu optical encoder used
for the tuning knob in the Elecraft K2. This optical encoder has eight
times the resolution as the stock K2 encoder, and will result in a tuning
rate of 8 kHz per knob revolution, instead of 1 kHz per knob revolution,
at the 10 Hz frequency tuning step (provided you don't turn the knob too
fast.)
I am asking $50, plus shipping (in the same packaging Digi-Key used.)
I have had this encoder in my K2 for several months as an experiment.
I like leaving the radio in 10 Hz tuning step setting all the time, and
1 kHz per knob revolution doesn't seem fast enough for me, as I am primarily
a phone contester. I have tried both the 8x (Digi-Key #102-1009-ND)
and the 4x (Digi-Key #102-1005-ND) encoders, and I have decided that I
prefer the 4x. For more information on this sort of thing, see:
http://www.wm5r.org/k2-100/encoders.html
Why would you want to buy this encoder from me? It's an easy thing to
experiment with in the K2 that you can always undo by going back to the stock
encoder.
