Not all rubbing alcohols are able to clean without a residue. In the local
drugstore, there are now colored alcohols, and two differing concentrations.
Rubbing and denatured alcohols have additives which CAN leave a deposit on
your boards. This is usually a whiteish fine ring after the alcohol
evaporates, even if you scrub the boards with an Acid brush with short cut
bristles. The pure alcohols have no additives, thus were suggested as
preferred.
The best of all is use low fluxing solder, like Multicore Solder, and do not
have to deflux at all because there is no noticeable residue.
