I use eight 10' copper rods joined with Cadwelded 4-0 ground cable, attached
to each tower leg. The 'innermost' rods are equalized by a buried 1 1/2"
copper strap bolted to each rod in a "circle." All cables route through
Polyphasers at the common ground point at the tower, and through Polyphasers
again at the main Cu panel at the house, which has its own ground system. A
#4 copper wire, buried, connects the tower ground system to the 5-rod house
system, which is copper-strapped to the Cu panel. All antennas are at DC
ground.
I have never disconnected my gear, even though I live in the Southeast, for
any storm including Fran, and frequently operate during electrical storms.
The tower is 80' Rohn 55G guyed with Phillystran 6700, plus mast and
antennas top out at 96 feet.
