Greetings, all.
I didn't get to the radio till quarter past the hour. I heard a reference
to K1/K2 on 18.130 so I stayed on that frequency. I heard AG4XH(?) who was
calling for stations. I later heard KQ9L (later it sounded like I heard
call stated as KC9L) and he (or was it another station) saying they were
using K2 #3232. Both stations were R5. I wasn't looking at the S-meter
when I heard them. I wasn't able to copy any of the other stations.
I tried a couple times with each of these two stations on SSB with no
result. They never talked for long so it was hard to get the radio tuned
in to the voices using CW mode on my K2. After a while I found I needed to
use CW REV and tune 600Hz high.
By this time it must have been around half-past. Sending CW during times
when I couldn't hear a station never yielded any response. Either no one
was hearing me, or some other SSB station covered me up, or the ops
weren't handling CW. I heard at least one other station that seemed to be
giving their call in CW but I didn't get written down as it was sent only
once each time and at around 20 or 25 wpm.
The band was up and down a fair bit. By 45 past the hour, there was a DX
station about 1kHz up, and an Ohio station starting to call CQ 1kHz down.
There was activity (possible three stations I might have been able to
work). With better band conditions I might have been able to hear more
stations.
Cheers!
