Hi guys, K2/100 #3232 had it's first day in the field. My club had a SE
commemorating the Armed Forces at Cantigny Park, Wheaton, IL. We had 4
stations set up in a roughly 300 yd sq field. For antennas, there was one
wire dipole, several multi-band verticals and my Buddipole. Overall a fun
event, but, (there's always a but) I had two problems.
1) my receiver seemed to be overloaded by my collegues running CW on
different bands. I could copy their code as a buzz or harse sound in the
receiver. Did not matter that I was on a different band and physically at
least 50ft from the other station, the code came through and affected my
ability to copy the station I was working. I'm concerned that during field
day, I'll be blasted off the planet with our 6+ stations running in close
proximity to me. Is this common, or is this due to the fact that I built my
KPA100 and KAT100 into a separate EC2 enclosure?
2) my PA kept setting itself to a temp of 256C and displaying a "PA HOT"
error message despite the heatsink being COOL to touch (three times on 17m
and once on 20m). Is this an RFI issue resetting the tpa? Anybody else
have this problem and know how to fix it? I know there was mention of the
list before, but I don't remember if a definitive solution was reached.
Aside from these two problems the K2 twins brought many looks of envy from
my club members and hopefully one or two will build one too! Thanks in
advance.
Rich
