[Elecraft] Spectrogram-like debugging

Thank you to all who helped me with ideas on vacuum desoldering
equipment. It appears that despite my prejudice that the all-in-one
unit, esp. the Hakko 808 is highly recommended.

I sent the following email to an individual, but realize now that
I should have sent it to the elecraft group instead. I mean no slight to
the individual by "forwarding" the message to the group.

Wow, this computer-aided radio analysis is the coolest.

I recently built a noise source board and hooked my K2 up to
my linux box running baudline (something like spectrogram). I am not
sure I like what I saw, but I am not confident in my understanding of
it. The CW (RF board) filters have a pronunced image above the expected
bandpass which is only 10 to 15 db lower. The SSB filter 1) only drops
about 40 db near 0 hz and 2) doesn't have a flat response in the pass
region, more of a pronounced "tailing off". It sort of looks like my
nice band pass filter has been overlayed with a sloppy low pass filter.

Of course, I haven't worked with this setup before so I suspect
everything of lying to me. Have you heard of someone successfully using
baudline to do K2 alignment? There are a lot of virtual knobs to twiddle
on that software.

If I haven't pulled the wrong lever, does it sound like I cooked
my crystals? I did the base grounding mod "recently". How would I
demonstrate cooked crystals?
