Go for it Rick. I'd not tackled anything other than QRP CW rigs. Follow the
manual carefully, don't press on when you are tired (I did and wired in two
multi pin connectors and an IC the wrong way round). I've just got to
install the ssb module, but have been using the rig on CW and it knocks the
spots of my IC706Mkll. 40 M sounds like a different band.
