[Elecraft] Don't Shoot Me for this Observation

Well, here is another way of looking at it. I was tempted to buy a 746 PRO,
especially with the price. The 746PRO is not a bad rig at all. It has
features I wish the K2 had - RIT clear while transmitting, dual receive
(even though it isn't stereo). And, even though I do a good job at building
kits, I am not buying a K2 at Dayton for the fun of building it. I'm buying
it for what it can do. I am an active DXer and contester. Once I compared
the 5KHZ spacing test data comparing IMDDR3 and BDR, it was a no brainer
which way to go.
So, my work bench is cleaned up of my other projects and ready for the
K2/100 plus all the goodies.

This K2 thing is getting quite hard to justify to the YL. I think I might
have to sign up for K2A - K2 Anonomous. "Hi, I'm Lee and I own a K2..."
With all the new fangled stuff introduced, the cost of a K2\100, with tuner,
with DSP, with SSB, with 160, with the noise blanker is $1,575.
Now you start looking at the fact you can purchace some rigs today new for
AES for less than that it makes one pause.... Such as the IC746PRO.
Of course you have to subtract $250 for the fun of building the rig, another
$250 for the fun of winding toroids, another $250 for great customer
service, another $250 for the fun of operating the rig, and another $250
dollars for all you learned in the process of building it, it doesn't seem
to be a bad deal. The rig sells for $325. What a deal!
Now, do you think that the YL will follow all that great logic?
"Honey, it's a great bargain...because....." Elecraft is truely becoming a
player in the HR equipment field. Lee - K0WASN 1056
