[Elecraft] DSP and the KAF2

The KAF2 audio filter is an incredibly well-performing little unit. I have
written before that I like the combination of having it in the K2 and
hanging an outboard DSP unit on for use on SSB and other special occasions.
In my case, I use the Timewave DSP 599zx. It does a very good job and has
many useful features. So, IMHO, this situation is far more attractive than
replacing the KAF2 with the DSP option. The cost is about the same if the
599zx is obtained used. There are also dynamic range issues with audio DSP,
especially the 16-bit units. Use of the 599zx sometimes requires careful
juggling of gains, etc, which, I suspect, will not be possible on the fly
with the internal DSP option.

For my part, I will probably give the internal option a try eventually, but
not for many months since the ham budget is presently depleted. I tried
unsuccessfully to find out how much I should budget for the new Elecraft
offerings, so I spent the fund on other attractive things. The price of
secrecy is often paid by all!
