[Elecraft] K2 - Full power carrier in SSB

I have completed a minimum, plain vanilla configuration (PTT, AF, GND only) of the microphone header and successfully set (I think) the coarse carrier balance adjustment. But I am unable to do the fine carrier adjustment. When the TX is keyed in either LSB or USB I get a steady carrier at > 10 watts irrespective of the power control setting, no audio. Keying the microphone when in CW mode gives a steady stream of dots also at > 10 watts. Twiddling R1 makes no difference. Receive performance appears fine as are all SSB menue functions. 

All voltages at every IC and diode check out good (give or take a few millivolts) with the exception of U1-9. It only swings up to about 0.5 V instead of > 2V on transmit. 

Machine is Rev B, SSB module earlier 


I sure could use some help, please!
