Not all of us can afford to throw money at every problem, especially when
it isn't one of our own making. For what it's worth, I found SpamPal very
good (www.spampal.org.uk). It's free, and if it will work in your situation
I can recommend it. But there is no known solution that won't dump some
wanted mail in the spam can (so you still have to go through it all at some
time) and let the occasional offensive item through, so you still get
aggravated by it. If government legislation can solve the problem, I'm all
for it, though I don't see how it could be done in a way that's legally and
technically enforceable.

But it was NOT my intention to start an off-topic thread on the best way to
combat spam. The only 100% solution is to prevent spammers getting their
hands on your email address in the first place. I've always been careful
about this, such as in the past sending polite emails to well-meaning hams
who thought it useful to put a mailto: link to me on their site, asking
them to put a link to my webmail form instead. I had to dump one email
address I'd used professionally for years, because it became such a spam
magnet, as a result of a magazine I'd written articles for putting the
address on their website. So I'm more than a little upset that my efforts
to safeguard my qsl.net address have now been wasted.
