The architecture of XP makes it very stable however software upgrades
generally need more hardware resources which needs to be assessed.     

As part or the instalment program of XP is a checking program which will
tell you which of your currently installed software may give problems under
XP.  This can be run prior to upgrade and an assessment made.   You may be
able to obtain a copy to run this prior to making a decision.

Regarding "I have a couple of dos based CW training programs I'd like to
retain".  There is a truly excellent (Windows) Free teaching program on the
NZART website called "Teach" (interactive, fully adjustable wpm, Farns
speed, Tone; rnd groups and 950 practice texts etc) which you may like to
