If you are going to do anything I'd opt for XP or 2000...XP if it's just
running your home and ham apps. I've run everything under the Sun since
starting with CPM on my old Xerox 820 packet BBS in 1980. Every version of
Windows since Windows for Workgroups has been crap until 2000 and it's
little brother XP. I've been running XP on all my machines since it came
out and can't remember any crash that I didn't cause. You'll also have
problems when dealing with new hardware or software that hasn't been well
tested...but I've never seen the Blue Screen of Death with XP. I'd
recommend it to any..but also I'd recommend you back everything up and
reformat the disk or just install a new HardDrive and designate the old one
as the secondary drive.
If you are doing any sort of Hardware or software design work like I
do....also get a nifty program called "GoBack3".....it's a bootstrap that
runs on power up and allows you to reset to a previous condition before the
problem. Unlike the restore function under windows you don't need to get
the Operating System up and running first....which is a super great plus.
Well worth all 29 bucks.
