[Elecraft] K2/RS-232/USB issues

It's a bag of worms that might work out if the phase of the moon is
right. So far I have been unable to get my Win 98 DOS window running
trlog to talk to my K2 using a Keyspan USB Serial Adapter. Others have
been more successful. There are hundreds of hardware and configuration
parameter combinations and only a few that work. All standards are equal
but some standards are less equal. If you are smart or lucky, you may
hit the jackpot.

I've seen devices that purport to emulate four serial ports from one USB
interface. Haven't tried them.

I know USB-serial adaptors are available, but do these work with commonly used ham software packages? I'm looking around for used ultraportable laptops to use with a K2 and some of these only have USB. Also, if a single USB-serial link will work, can I useuse a USB hub to replicate multiple serial I/O's? Thanks!
