Mike

I installed an in-line, polarized, miniature shrouded power connector on my
KBT1 so I could easily remove it. I am fairly certain these are AMP
Mate-n-Lok connectors, of good repute. But I pulled them from my junque
box, and although new, they are of unknown origin.

No need to mess with the PC board. And no chance for shorts when the KBT1
is removed. I have about a 1 1/2" pigtail off the PC board on one side, and
the rest off the KBT1. The mated connector fits nicely in the space behind
the KAT1.

If I am right about these connectors (95% chance I am) ... these connectors
are Mouser part # 571-14803190 ($0.09 ea.) and the mating # 571-14803180
($0.09 ea.) with pins # 571-606181 ($0.08 ea.) and sockets # 571-606171
($0.08 ea.). The ampacity spec on these is 7A, so, no worries in a K1!

I think this should be a standard part of the KBT1, actually. Might add a
buck or so to the cost, but well worth it. Eric? Wayne?

Of course, you will have to use good technique installing them to account
for the mechanical integrity of an unsupported inline connector on
small-gauge wiring ... using quality heatshrink tubing, crimp-and-solder
terminals, color-coded stranded wire, etc.. 8 AA NiMH cells can sure source
a lot of juice in a hurry if they see a short ... professional workmanship
is key here.

I'm always cautious when suggesting a mod for others to do that isn't
Officially Sanctioned by Aptos ... but based on what I know of you from this
reflector and the impressive credentials on QRZ, you'll do a fine job.
